CRANE, Flowers from Shakespeare's Garden.

CRANE, Walter: Flowers from Shakespeare’s Garden. A Posy from the Plays. London (Cassell), 1906. Gr. 8°. 39 Bl. mit 39 farb. Bildtafeln von Walter Crane. ill. OHLn. Kanten leicht berieben und bestoßen, Rückdeckel mit kleinem Fleck, sonst feines Ex.

seltene EA.
It was the last in Walter Crane’s series of five floral fantasies depicting flowers in human form.
Largely Pre-Raphaelite in style, the book is wonderfully illustrated in colour throughout, with Crane handling all elements of the design (including hand-lettered text, endpapers and covers) to produce a work typically rich and harmonious in effect. Each leaf features a full-page portrait of a humanized flower, with reference to the Shakespeare play in which the flower is mentioned. The pages are presented in the French-fold or Japanese manner, printed on one side only, with each pair of leaves attached at the fore-edges.
